WTC? Really? Wouldn't that fact that NO ONE thought it was great kind of make that more difficult? It didn't get a single four star review. I know that doesn't mean anything, but even poorly thought of films like Chocolat had at least one 100.
Does anyone really consider it Best Picture quality? I just can't imagine it getting in over films people actually like. And certainly United 93 has a much better chance of getting critics and precursor reviews.

The campaign is gearing up in a manner that recalls the Angellotti Universal campaigns of old.
The Paramount team is not only doing a fine job on the print front, but in the face time department.
Films like The Good German are falling to the wayside (Blood Diamond will also prove disappointing soon enough, when people see what a long, drawn-out affair it is that boils down to nothing...disappointment in the fall, of any sort, recalls the stuff earlier in the year that landed in the right spot).
Meanwhile, United 93 has no shot and never did.
I think Flags, Bobby or WTC will land a spot in the final analysis, and for now, with Bobby waiting to unleash or fall flat, I'm going with WTC.
As for the critics, I think they will prove how marginalized they have become this year. Best to look elsewhere for tea leaves this year.

World Trade Center... um... not happening. Sorry.

You might be right.

It's a ballsy prediction, I'll give you that. But, yeah...

Hey Kris, your main and tech charts links are broken.
Oh, I don't think you're crazy regarding your World Trade Center pick. O'neil says he's spoken with voting members of the Golden Globes, and it's in strong contention for picking up a Best Drama nod.
I guess we'll see soon enough.

I thought they were running the whole Departed crew in supporting. When did that change?

Recently FYCs went out that had DiCaprio absent from the supporting contenders. Some thought that meant he'd get a lead push in the end. It's back and forth over there, and having seen "Blood Diamond" in all it's - badness - I'm convinced Leo won't score there, so it was a judgment call.

If they have to choose between one 9/11 movie, they'll go with WTC. "Movies matter" and all that hype, but WTC is more intimate than United 93 and I see a world where it can get in.
Here's what I don't understand about your predix, Kris, The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine... Little Miss Sunshine is an indy darling but it doesn't even come close to being Sideways. Can it possibly get any guild support? And with a crowd pleaser like Dreamgirls in the race, does the Academy feel it necessary to put this small film in the race over much more worthy contenders just because it gave them a warm, fuzzy feeling? And The Queen is, quite frankly, a good movie but not a great one. It should have been for HBO - I still see that one as Helen Mirren and a couple of other noms but best picture??? Michael Sheen even played the part in the TV movie about the subject. Why all the fuss?
