I'm officially giving msyelf the most awesome at life award for no Dreamgirls/Letters from Iwo Jima Original Screenplay. And where was Volver for Foreign Language? You could see Salma Hayek looking for it...

Ack... I'm such a flake. Did they announce the Foreign Language right before Director? Because maybe the missing "Volver" nomination made Selma choke up?
And surprise surprise: Eastwood shows up, despite lack of Guilds. Now did the academy members actually SEE the movie, or were they just nominating it for the sake nominating it?

!!!
That's all I can say.

Holy shit is right!
Does Letters From Iwo Jima become the front-runner for the win now? Oh boy.
And no Jack!?

I love the academy!
Letters way to go.
Only dissappointmnet, a major won, they overlooked Michael Sheen for the Queen. They'll sure regret this this soon.
And what the fuck Babel! People are fucking obsessed with that movie.

For Mark Wahlberg and Paul Greengrass.
Both entirely well deserved.

Iwo Jima getting in over Dreamgirls is a-ok by me.
And Pan's Labyrinth with a whopping SIX nominations! Sweet!!!

Does anyone know the last time a film that was snubbed for Best Picture still managed to garner the most nominations?
Posted by: PanTheFaun | January 23, 2007 06:22 AM
Ok, I admit I was wrong about Click and Poseidon. I never thought I'd be saying that, or maybe it was just realistic wishful thinking...
I love the Academy more than ever at the moment. Snubbing Dreamgirls for Picture and Director, but giving it three Original Song nominations. I love that it has more nominations than any other film. That's truly awesome.

To answer PanTheFaun's question: the last time the most nominated film did not get a Best Picture nomination was...never. This is the first time this has ever happened.
