Predicting The Week In Guilds (ADG, CAS)
The Art Directors Guild and Cinema Audio Society are each dishing out nods on Thursday, and though I want to rattle off some predictions, I don't feel like going through the pomp and circumstance of last week to do so. SO, here's what I'm thinking, free of lengthy explanation:
CINEMA AUDIO SOCIETY (CAS) Predictions
"Apocalypto"
"Blood Diamond"
"Dreamgirls"
"Flags of Our Fathers"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
(alt: "Casino Royale")
ART DIRECTORS GUILD (ADG) Predictions
Contemporary:
"Babel"
"Casino Royale"
"Poseidon"
"Running with Scissors"
"World Trade Center"
(alt.: "Blood Diamond")
Period:
"The Black Dahlia"
"Curse of the Golden Flower"
"Dreamgirls"
"Marie Antoinette"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
(alt.: "Flags of Our Fathers" or "Letters from Iwo Jima")
Fantasy:
"Children of Men"
"Eragon"
"Pan's Labyrinth"
"Superman Returns"
"V for Vendetta"
(alt.: "The Fountain")
Will they give Henry Bumstead a mention for his swansong efforts? I'm not too sure, but we'll see. And again, I'm refraining from classification on "The Illusionist" or "The Prestige," but more than likely they'll fall under the "period" category as the former did with the Costume Designers Guild. Neil Burger's film has had a decent showing so far, so it might just turn up here on Thursday.

nice predix, are you gonna mention the 9 foreign language films at all? no Curse of the golden flower... The Lives of Others, Volver & Pan's Labyrinth seem safe...

Yeah, saw that. I'll just deal with it in my predictions next week. Kind of coasting...

No The Devil Wears Prada? I know the apartment Andy lived in was ridiculous, but so much detail in those offices and everywhere else.

I thought there were only two categories, Contemporary and Period/Fantasy

Babel wasnt great at Art Direction. It will get a nomination for the sake of it.
Some of the best work this year:
Casino Royale
The Black Dahlia
Dreamgirls
Flags of Our Fathers
Children of Men

The ADG is known to place films where convenient ("Chocolat" and "Walk the Line" in contemporary, for example) so I suspect we'll be seeing "Pirates" in Fantasy (CDG categorization aside). Ditto "The Prestige".
My guesses would be (off the top of my head)...
Babel
Blood Diamond
Casino Royale
The Queen
World Trade Center
Children of Men
Pan's Labyrinth
Pirates
Prestige
Superman
Black Dahlia
Dreamgirls (could show up in contemporary which would be ridiculous)
Good Shepherd
Letters from Iwo Jima
Marie Antoinette
