What a crazy morning...
I even took a nap, and still, I'm reeling.
It was a pleasure talking to some of the lucky nominees this morning. You never can get too much of a person's cloud nine excitement. So my congrats to everyone who landed safely this morning. It should be an interesting race from here on out.
Speaking of which, the sidebar has been updated with the full list of nominees and my first stabs at predicting winners, indicated by asterisks. I need to do a little research on the short film categories before venturing guesses there. But for now, I'm expecting "Letters from Iwo Jima" to take the cake. Anything can happen in this Oscar race, though, so don't place you bets too strongly just yet.

If The Departed wins best adapted screenplay and best director, then how can it not win best picture?

So "Iwo Jima" is only going to win 2 Oscars, including Best Pic? Has that ever happened before?

Brokeback won Adapted Screenplay and Director last year...and didn't win Best Picture. It not only can happen, it has happened.

Hey Kris, this is kind of off topic, but just thought you should know that you have The Queen listed under editing when you should have Children of Men.

Um, Dudley, Brokeback Mountain won 3 Oscars.
My question is, has the Best Pic winner ever won just 2 Oscars.
I even doubt "Iwo Jima" can win Sound Editing... can it win just Best Picture and nothing else?

Like Kris has been saying, this year's awards race is anything but typical. There are so many oddities and irregularities that I do believe Letters can easily win just Best Picture, although I wouldn't count it out of any of the other categories.

John, I was replying to the first post.
I believe "Grand Hotel" was nominated just for one Oscar -- Best Picture (or Outstanding Production) -- and won. Don't know about two.

You're right dudley, thanks. Go Departed.
