Back in L.A.
Apologies for the disconnect. A few days in New York to unwind was what I needed, though, as we approach phase two with a vengeance.
The Variety blog has been cooking, most recently with a run down of the guild noms per film. Very telling. Now that the guilds are cooking, things are certainly clearing up. I think it's fairly clear that six films are fighting for the five spots.
Check out Red Carpet District tomorrow, as we'll be live blogging the Golden Globes travesty. A new Oscar column with updated predictions will land Monday and back-to-back Tech Support columns from Gerard on Wednesday and Thursday. Enjoy the weekend (and go Jaguars/Chargers/Packers/Giants).

Kris,is it true that the results of the Globes have zero effect on the Oscar nominations because the Academy has already turned in it's nominee ballots before the Globes Telecast/press conference??
If so, do you think that this is really the best way to do things?? If I were a member of the Academy I would want too see the results of the Globes before I turned in my nomination ballot. Not so that I could just necesarily follow suit, but just so I could get a better over all pulse on things before I made my final selections.
Your thoughts??

If I were an AMPAS member I wouldn't care about what other groups are picking. Why should one conform to the rest of the laurels being handed out? The whole idea of the AMPAS honoring films is for it to pick what it likes, not go with the overall pulse of things.
