“If you squeeze your ears together, Coco Before Chanel sounds like Rachel Getting Married! Let’s make the posters look the same, but without the married couple of course!”

Good God, cinema is an art form, this is far from art

For a biopic about a fairly unpleasant person, the film is surprisingly good.

Perhaps this speaks more to my own experience, but I’ve found that ever since I stopped working at a movie theater about a decade ago (coinciding with the atmospheric rise of the Internet), I simply don’t care about one-sheets and posters.

They don’t generate buzz like they used to; nowadays, it’s people Twittering from the set or leaked photographs that get audiences interested. In a way posters are just the visual template that gets repeated in print and web advertisements, but with the advent of viral campaigns and Internet-bound trailers, I wonder how much they matter anymore — besides being pure lobby candy, I guess. And even then, at my local theaters it’s less about posters on the wall than it is about gigantic cardboard dioramas to promote future films.

I’m not happy about the development, of course, because posters used to be great pop art. But the best posters I see nowadays are for films that are already decades old — minimalistic homages created by designers and fans and posted on Flickr, or the upgraded classic posters for TCM’s Summer Under the Stars.

No. The movie’s a bit of a snooze and she doesn’t have much to do. Poster is indeed quite bad.

I’ll agree with Glenn on both counts. If anything it starts to get interesting towards the very end, but that’s just because I’m much more interested in Coco Apres Chanel then Coco Avant Chanel.
