The Toronto International Film Festival has confirmed that John Hillcoat’s “The Road,” the film I am looking forward to most this year, is going to be here in the Special Presentation Program.

Yes!! I have been waiting for this film since reading that amazing book in three days a year ago.

Along with the Viggo Mortenson, Charlize Theron and Robert Duvall starrer will be new films featuring Natalie Portman, George Clooney, Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Demi Moore, David Duchovny, Colin Firth, Omar Sharif, Jeff Bridges and countless others, making for another star-studded Toronto line-up.

Among the films announced today in addition to The Road are, “Mother and Child” from director Rodrigo Garcia, a study of three women and the unbreakable bonds between mothers and daughters. Annette Bening, Naomi Watts and Kerry Washington star in the film.

“The Men Who Stare at Goats” will be here with Ewan McGregor, George Clooney and Jeff Bridges in a military paranormal thriller that is also said to be deeply comic.  Meanwhile, from the director of “Cinema Paradiso” comes “Baaria,” an epic saga of life, death, love and hatred in a Sicilian town in the first part of the 20th century.

Natalie Portman stars in the new Don Roos film “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits” about a newlywed Harvard law graduate who loses her newborn child, throwing her life into overwhelming grief and hell. The film is an adaptation of the Ayelet Waldman novel and features Lisa Kudrow and Scott Cohen.

Colin Firth has his strongest role in many years in “A Single Man” for director Tom Ford. He plays a British college professor having just lost his partner of many years and struggling with the grief and where to go from there.  Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode co-star.

Werner Herzog brings his latest “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done,” and there is an interesting new film about the relationship between Wolgang Amadeus Mozart and Salieri, entitled “I, Don Giovanni,” directed by Carlos Saura.

Finally, “The Joneses” stars Demi Moore and David Duchovny as a couple new to the neighborhood who harbor terrible secrets.

TIFF is coming…tick, tick, tick…

The Road – I cannot wait. I read the novel for the first time last month and thought it was excellent. And Viggo is perfect casting.

And a new film from Giuseppe Tornatore – excellent!
