‘The Wolf Man’: the OTHER trailer premiere of the day

Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 9:26 am · August 20th, 2009

I must say, as cheesy as it appears (I’m getting a “Van Helsing” vibe), I was totally bummed when Universal’s “The Wolf Man” was pushed to 2010.  The techs look great all around, especially Shelly Johnson’s cinematography.  (If I’m being honest, Allen Daviau’s work behind the camera on “Van Helsing” was, frankly, some of the best of 2004.)

Anyway, have a look:

Maybe it’ll look cooler in 3-D…

This trailer wins out the battle of the 2 trailer premiers today. This looks exciting but most of all, the movie is absolutely spectacular to look it. The cinematography, art direction and costume look staggeringly pleasurable. Atleast this thing will be great to look at. It has a Sleepy Hallow like atmosphere and since that was nominated for all 3, I don’t see why the Wolf Man wouldn’t be.

I was largely unmoved, actually, beyond the look of the thing, which rocks. But I dunno…

This is so much more exciting than Avatar…..I hope it’s just the trailer, not the movies themselves.

Anyone that thinks The Wolf Man is “more exciting than Avatar” boggles my mind.

They are both different, I wouldn’t compare the two.

Anyways, this actually looks pretty good. And as someone said above, it is nice to look at.

Agree on Allen Daviau’s work in Van Helsing. Probably the only aspect worth saving on that film.

Joe Johnston is a skillful director. He can get the job done.

I have to agree with some here that this trailer was better than Avatar but will it be a better movie? I don’t know.

The Avatar trailer reminded me of that sea monkeys episode from South Park.

It looks pretty cool. I like the casting, and the look, but the fact that the movie has been pushed back repeatedly for nearly two years worries me indeed. Time will tell.

Also, Emily Blunt is really hot.

It’s about time they made a prequel to Benicio Del Toro’s character in Big Top Pee Wee.

Maybe because everyone has been hyping “Avatar” as the best thing since slice bread and because “The Wolf Man” has continuously rescheduled and received bad buzz (as a consequence of that) has people showed more love toward this trailer.

I smiled at Hugo Weaving brief seconds. Probably because that man could read the most boring material ever and make it sound exciting or interesting.

I don’t think anyone is even implying this will be better movie than Avatar. And why being snarky Kris? I’m just judging it fairly based on trailer. Don’t know why it boggles your mind. I’m very interested in Avatar, especially in the story, don’t care much about the special effects, but the trailer leaves me cold, that’s just my opinion.

I completely agree with you, Kris. This appears to be a bad case of the hype machine making everyone expect the Second Coming with the Avatar teaser.

This really exceeded expectations. Practical and painful werewolf effects will pretty much always get me in the seat.

Looks much better than Van Helsing.

This is in no way, shape, or form better than Avatar. Ignore hype and make decisions based on the trailer. I still think Avatar’s visuals are amazing. So what if it doesn’t change cinema forever? Not a lot of hyped up movies do.
