Thanks for the link to the Fellows article. I remember your interview on Oscar Central back in the day. That was a very well-deserved Oscar win for Fellows, and even though I was squarely in the David Lynch camp at the time, Altman deserved the Oscar for Gosford Park. Looking back, I’d say it’s this decade’s best period film.

I wish I could agree with you Sawyer, but I am completely baffled at how beloved Gosford Park was. Here was a director who had such a fascinating perspective on the military, the gospel music scene and Hollywood, and one of his most acclaimed films is this totally unoriginal and BORING movie that examines the pre-War British class system (wow, that’s never been done before).
P.S. Julian Fellowes stole the Best Original Screenplay Oscar from Christopher and Jonathan Nolan.

Gosford Park is only the 2nd best film thus far into the decade if you ask me.
