The press release, in part:
Newmarket Films announced today that it has acquired U.S. rights to director Jon Amiel’s CREATION, a film which focuses on Charles Darwin and his family as he struggles to finish his legendary book “On The Origin of Species,” which went on to become the foundation for evolutionary biology. The screenplay was written by John Collee, based on the biography “Annie’s Box” which was penned by Darwin ‘s great-great grandson Randal Keynes using personal letters and diaries of the Darwin family. The film was produced by Jeremy Thomas at Recorded Picture Company (The Last Emperor, Sexy Beast), with BBC Films and Ocean Pictures.
CREATION stars real-life couple Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind) as Darwin and wife. Newmarket ’s Chris Ball and Robert Fyvolent negotiated the deal for Newmarket , and HanWay Films CEO Tim Haslam negotiated on behalf of the producer. Newmarket plans to release the film in December.

now the only thing left to pick up for distribution is Mother and Child…PLEASE!!!
I concur….Although, I dunno. I’ve heard Bening is more supporting, whereas Watts is more lead (one source at least). I’m not sure she stands a chance against Mo’Nique/Cruz/UITA ladies. A part of me hopes for 2010 instead.
Also, Creation = this year’s The Painted Veil or The Duchess, perhaps? Period piece that’s a contender for techs and nothing more..’Tis my vibe, anyway.
I have a bad feeling this is going to end up like Defiance and Valkyrie no one sees it and no one cares to.
who’s going to release THE LAST STATION?
Nanoush: I don’t believe that has a distributor yet. But whatever the case, I suspect it will be a 2010 release (fine by me; this year’s too crowded, anyway).
It didn’t get good reviews at TIFF.
MOTHER is pretty evenly split between the three women, but it’d be virtually impossible to say Watts is more of a lead than Bening. Bening’s not THE lead, as it’s an ensemble, but she straddles the line, and certainly has more screentime than Watts or Washington.
If that is the case, and Cotillard is lead for Nine, maybe Swank could be edged out after all.
Well, this kinda robs them of their whole “dangerous/most controversial film of the year” angle.
Besides, if there’s a more controversial film than “Antichrist”, I’ll eat my hat.
