‘The Lovely Bones’ poster

Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 10:59 am · October 8th, 2009

Not entirely appealing, I must say.  And what’s up with the file Yahoo! is using?  Seems a bit distorted or rough around the edges something.  Anyway, here it is:

The Lovely Bones

I imagine this is a teaser and there will be another one-sheet later on down the line.

I think had the title been smaller and above the tree, this would be one hell of a poster. As is, it’s pretty cool, but nothing classic.

Looks great. seems to capture the darkness of the story along with the hopefulness using the heavenly light and what not.

the actor billing is leading me to believe more and more that Ronan will go supporting. That’s gonna be a busy category this year with three movies each having at least two women vying for a spot. I think it’ll come down to

    Cruz, Nine
    Ronan, Lovely Bones
    Mo’nique, Precious
Kendrick, Up in the Air (she dazzled me in the new trailer)
and my longshot nominee: Melanie Laurent, Inglourious Basterds.

With all the star names listed along the top, this poster reminds me (unsettlingly) of those ’70s all-star disaster epics with tiny headshots of the stars listed across the poster.

It’s setting off my “disappointing movie” radar, to be honest.

I don’t see how this even comes close to touching the “Precious” posters for beauty and daring, but that’s me.

I see what they were going for, but I personally find it all rather beige.

I fail to see the beauty in the Precious posters. I see the daring side but not the beauty everyone is talking about.

it seems people are unwilling to support this movie, while others are completely for it. TIME TO END THE CONVERSATION, PARAMOUNT ANNOUNCED RONAN IS LEAD, END OF STORY TO ALL!

Well, American Requiem… Kate Winslet was campaigned as a SUPPORTING ACTRESS contender and won the oscar for LEAD in The Reader. :)

And I’m 100% for this movie. I got shivers when I saw the heaven parts of the trailer in a movie theater. Also, The Lord of the Rings are some of my favorite films ever. Ever.

I get the feeling that many contributors to this site are unfairly biased against Peter Jackson. It seems at least one of them must always make a semi-snide and/or negative comment about him and his work whenever it is brought up.

I’d actually prefer this if it were cropped and turned into a UK Quad poster (just like Sasha did at Awards Daily) because it gets rid of all that empty space at the top as if to say “OH LOOK! OUR MOVIE HAS CLOUDS!!!!”

This still looks too much like a book cover though and not a movie poster.

Dan: Not true. I didn’t like the poster. Simple as that. Go back and read my Comic Con coverage if you think I have a problem with Jackson.

JAB: Trust me, Ronan will go lead. Nothing to debate, talked to the studio about it, done deal.

Happy that Ronan is going Lead (It’s what I had expected, but you know how Oscar can dismiss the young ones haha)

And to get on the topic, love the poster. Hope our theater gets it so I can sign-up to get it :)

I have a feeling some of you on this site, want this movie to fail.

Kris, you’ve never really been behind this movie either. At least at the moment.

I really like this poster. We all know this is a teaser poster, I am sure there will be one at the end of November.

I don’t want this movie to fail; I just didn’t think much of the book.

I haven’t got any problem at all with Peter Jackson.

I don’t like Peter Jackson’s films and so I have no confidence in this one. Is that unfair bias or common sense?

You didn’t even like Heavenly Creatures?

Anyway, I would call it bias but not illogical.

I did like Heavenly Creatures but that was over a decade and six films ago. We all bring our opinions about filmmakers, cast and source material into whether we want to see a movie or not and reaching a conclusion based on the history of your feelings towards those three might be bias but it’s not unfair.

Why is it that if someone doesn’t give the appearance of being behind a movie, he or she must want it to fail?
