‘Quantum’ trailer debuts

Posted by Guy Lodge · 4:30 am · September 10th, 2008

Scoff if you must. But from where I’m standing, the new “Quantum of Solace” trailer pretty much ticks all the boxes. Chases. Pretty girls. Explosions. Hot cars. Hot cars exploding. Daniel Craig squinting moodily. Mathieu Amalric hamming it up in a tux. What’s not to like? Count me in.

Or watch it here for a prettier picture.

That’s exactly my feeling on this trailer: totally by the numbers. Granted, I felt even less optimistic about the teaser trailer but something about this whole thing makes me sad and I just can’t place my finger on it. It’s like Forster doesn’t know what he’s doing – and it shows. Worst of all it shows in the Daniel Craig’s performance – it’s just not compelling (and yes, I know I’m judging it from a trailer – but I felt differently about the previous film dammit!).

Also, that (obviously) CGI-enchanced falling scene sticks out like a sore thumb? Whatever happened to the hyper realism of the wonderful Casino Royale?

You got all that from the trailer?

I think it looks terrific, but I’m a pretty easy sell with Bond films.

Guy, when you in a the business of movies you got to learn to listen to your instincts. And right now my instincts tell me that this movie will dissapoint.

I realize how extremely premature this is, but let it be said that I am not alone:

Yeah, I was referring to Wells with the “scoff” link.

The kid inside me still can’t wait.

Yeah, sorry Guy. I’ve totally missed that link for some reason.
