Chalk “The Cat Piano” up as a nominee pronto. Probably the win, too. EVERYONE loves that short.
So says regular reader Glenn in the comment thread on the Best Animated Short Oscar shortlist. Having now watched this 8-minute Australian gem in all its noir-tinged, Nick Cave-narrated splendor, I can’t disagree. Take a look.

Wow, this was pretty incredible. I found myself wishing it was a full-length feature because I didn’t want it to end. Nice use of noir.

Pretty cool! The voice-over was awesome.
The look of the cats is quite similar of the Swat Kats cartoon of the 90’s.
Still, my vote is for Partly Cloudy.

It looked really cool and the story was great as well. It’s different and folks like different. Don’t know if it’ll win but it sure was oscar calibur.

Has there yet been a full-length animated noir? ‘Cause I’d love to watch that.

Colin, “Renaissance” is probably the closest that I can recall, but I’m sure there’s something else out there.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Nick Cave (the narrator).

Really cool animation, great story, the narration by Nick Cave spot on and it’s poetic noir translation to the screen has brought to it the Oscar for Best Short Animation … at least that is my opinion .
