I don’t really have the energy to predict this thing another year. I mean, we can all take a million different stabs at the top 10, take a gander at the actors who have multiple roles, which the NBR likes to recognize (I mean seriously, who ISN’T going to pick Stanley Tucci for supporting actor), make the requisite calls in favor of the obvious “breakthrough” possibilities, etc., etc. If I had to pick a Best Picture winner, I guess I’d lean toward “Precious” or “The Hurt Locker,” but seriously…whatever.
Some of you would probably like some space to predict, however, so consider this your opportunity. Thoughts on tomorrow’s announcement?

I can see them giving some support to 500 Days of Summer and The Last Station, given their recent Spirit nominations.
Precious would be the default choice, but a win for The Hurt Locker or Up In The Air would serve notice that Daniels’ film does not have the race locked up.
They’ll probably give love to some light mainstream fare, maybe a mention for Julie and Julia or The Blindside.

So my guesses:
TOP 10
Precious
Up in the Air
The Hurt Locker
The Last Station
Invictus
500 Days of Summer
Up
Nine
An Education
Julie & Julia
I can’t remember if they do a Top 10 and THEN a Best Picture. If it’s a cheating 11, then add A Single Man.
Director: Reitman (now that Eastwood’s movie isn’t all that, I think he’s on his way to an Oscar)
Actor: Firth
Actress: Streep (Julie & Julia and It’s Complicated)
Sup Actor: Tucci (Julie & Julia and The Lovely Bones)
Sup Actress: Monique
Ensemble: Precious or Nine

Hmmm… there’s always a curve ball or two in their top 10… sometimes a really weird one at that. They also tend to throw someone into the race and nominate someone who doesn’t make it…

They love Eastwood, so all I’ve got to say is: Beware.
I hope, based upon the dissenting reviews, that they’d aim higher. The past two years, they’ve selected the eventual BP winner; and every year since 2001, they’ve named an eventual BP nominee. So, “The Hurt Locker” winning here would be a huge momentum builder. But whether or not they do, I wholeheartedly hope they’ll choose Bigelow for director though. Please!?
I’m more interested in whom they’ll choose for breakthrough actor/actress/director.

Go ahead and call me crazy, but I get the feeling The Road is something the NBR would really respond well to. I mean, they were bold enough to go against the grain in 2007 and give Tim Burton Best Director for Sweeney Todd (which I felt he at the least deserved a nomination for). So you never know.

I think I’m gonna switch from Waltz to Jeremy Renner for Breakthrough Male, but since Viola Davis won last year, I can see someone older, who has been around longer like Waltz, winning in some bizarre way instead of in Supporting Actor. It depends how much they love Tucci or whomever else.
I forgot Foreign Film! “A Prophet” or “Police, Adjective” perhaps?
I think I’m gonna stick with Tom Ford, but I suppose Marc Webb is an alternative option for Breakthrough Director. There’s also Scott Cooper. But hopefully, they appreciate the artistry from Ford.
No point in changing much else, because it could go either of my ways or a completely different direction. Better not to fan the flames. I think the announcement should be circa 12noon, Eastern time.
