Don’t you clean up nice?

After the widely criticized “de-gaying” of “A Single Man,” The Weinstein Company’s next marketing project appears to be the “de-gritting” of “The Road.”

How else to explain the choice of a tidily mustachioed Viggo Mortensen and a radiantly smiling Charlize Theron as the largest images in this FYC ad? Never mind that they appear in this attractive, well-groomed state for only the briefest of interludes in the film. Nobody votes for a guy with a beard, right?

Initially, when I first saw these ads, I was convinced they were for “Good”.

FYC ads are like the movies wore their Dior and got ready to walk on the red carpet. Clean, happy, straight and lovely. In a Miley Cyrus kind of way.

I think it’s clear that they are playing on the contrast.

    This isn’t entirely relevant, but..

Viggo Mortensen totally looked his best with long hair in Lord of the Rings. There. I said it.

    Totally unrelated by still awesome.

P.S. I would agree with that, Emily.

These situations always remind me of the ads and poster art for The Sea Inside, featuring Javier Bardem in the five, hunky seconds when he hadn’t broken his neck by diving into shallow water.
