By now you’ve surely seen the ‘Notorious’ trailer…

Derek Luke in Notorious…if not, educate yourself below and rejoin the conversation in a minute.

First off — how come I didn’t realize this film was in the works?  And with that in mind, why to I have a weird feeling I did know this film in the works, but thought it was a weird dream or something?  I don’t know.

I think this is a story that has always had a lot of potential, to be quite honest.  It also has a lot of potential for playing, quite knowingly, to a crowd that wants something easily consumable and with a kickin’ sound track.  It could be both, who knows?  A January release date says little to me about a film like this, given the urban appeal and the fact that films like this tend to only do well really early in the year, a nice break from the heavy drama of awards season.

I dig Derek Luke’s look as Sean Combs and I’m eager to see what Jamal Woolard can do with this.  Could be arresting stuff.  Could be merely passable imitation.  But there are some talented people involved here, so maybe.  Just maybe.

Have a look.  Frankly, I think this trailer kicks ass:

Surprisingly impressive trailer. I’ll definitely be interested to see a longer theatrical trailer with some dialogue in it.

It looks a’ight. Looks formula and a little cliche. But very stylish. I am no fan of gangster rap but it might be an entertaining Netflix rental. Derek Luke is a fine actor, though, so seeing him do his best imitation of Combs should be cool.

Wasn’t Stallone supposed to be doing a film based on B.I.G.?

Unrelated, but any word on Page to Screen’s “Body of Lies” review, Kris? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Yeah, dropped the ball there, Gar. Had a busy week and the script is just staring at me on the bookshelf there. Next week.

Looks interesting. B.I.G.’s a great rapper, so this may turn out inspirational. Good, now there’s an adjective that it could be or not.
