‘Let Me In’ trailer

Written by

2008’s “Let the Right One In” was on plenty top 10 lists, including my own.  So the thought of an American remake with “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves at the helm has been, well, less than appealing.  Sight unseen, of course.  Judging by the new trailer, though (unfortunately debuting as an exclusive at Deadline with a YouTube embed and no HD option), there seems to be a proper reverence to the material.  But who trusts trailers these days anyway?  We’ll see.  Check out the international trailer for “Let Me In” by clicking the image below or watch the embed after the jump.

I think that it will be a totally different film from the original that critics will hate but it will have commercial success. Which is what most people probably predicted.

i like the cast, the footage looks good but the trailer editing is a little intense for my liking, one to keep my eyes on

One of the only things that interests me about this remake is Chloe Moretz. I have a feeling she will become a great actress, especially with her next movie being a Scorsese film.

Basically looks like a shot for shot remake of the original.

I honestly don’t like the way they’ve edited this trailer, and the music choice, the font choices, and all of that… I guess I shouldn’t have expected subtlety. However, I’m still holding out that the film will be good, but I’ll be going in with lowered expectations. Great cast, though.

Ah, the Last Airbender bitterness manifests.

Haha, among other things, Hans. I actually never really liked the trailers for Airbender, just the content therein. Looked there were workable moving parts. Clearly not.

that looks bloody fucking awful. pun intended, pun not intended–who gives a shit. that looks bloody fucking AWFUL. could’ve told me it was a commercial for a new show on the CW and i would’ve believed you.

Didn’t we already agree this was pointless? Why would anyone see it?

  11. Jim T Avatar

Chad – Well, I don’t think I’m going to see it but to answer your question in general: For the same reason someone would see Jane Eyre the next year. There is always something interesting to be applied in a remake. Though I have to admit that in this case there aren’t any actors like in Jane Eyre’s case to make anyone eager to see what it’ll turn out to be.

Completely off-topic: Kris, have you seen Inception yet?

i accept like you, that a remake for an amazing film like let the right one in.. seems like an absurd and stupid idea.. but.. if you don’t want to see the remake, just don’t see it.. this film wasn’t created for the art cinema lovers.. is for the mainstream people and i’m sure they gonna love it.. and if a hollywood remake could make more people know and get interesting in the original, i’m so fine with that..

I will see this because I really like both of the leads in this movie…both have done really great work despite being so young. I’m holding my breath that it won’t be a catastrophe…I’ll remain cautiously optimistic.

Not expecting miracles from this, but a straight shot for shot remake would be a disappointment.

I don’t like what they have done with the remake. It doesn’t seem to have the tone that the original had. The actors–to me–just don’t seem right…the movie worked because of the brilliant performances from the child actors–these kids don’t seem to cut it. HATED This…

I don’t understand. The original came out in this country less than two years ago and is widely available on DVD and by places like Blockbuster and Netflix. Why would anyone of sound mind need a remake?

  18. Silencio Avatar

I’m honestly scared to watch. I’ll wait for reviews.

I get why Hollywood would make a remake and why teens will be pumped by this trailer. I just don’t understand how anyone who already saw the original and liked it, would willingly line up to see a watered down version.

At first I was angry. Now I’m just sad that it’s actually coming out and for the young actors for being involved. I hope it dies a quick death at the box office.

Tricky one to comment on. In one way it’s nice to see it at least appearing to be very faithful to the (brilliant) original, but in another way you just kind of feel like.. What’s the point?

Obviously those who saw the original film were more of the arthouse/indie crowd while this will be sold to the masses, so the crossover isn’t huge.. But it’s still kind of a shame to remake it and then have it be the exact same thing just in English.

Completely unrelated but knowing how much everyone is anticipating Inception. You can listen to bits of the soundtrack now.

Is everybody forgetting that Let the Right One In was based on a book? So, this isn’t a remake, but rather another adaptation of the book, much like Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or the million versions of A Christmas Carol that are out there.

I’d rather it weren’t faithful to the original at all and spun off a completely different take on the source material. It would make it feel the tiniest bit more respectable and the tiniest bit less unnecessary – if still a stupid cash-grab aimed at audiences that wouldn’t watch a subtitled movie if you paid them.

  25. James D. Avatar

Estefan: Yes, but the reason the film is coming out is because of the success of the original film, just like Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Besides, the producer said it was a remake and not a “reimagining”. It is not like Fincher’s upcoming Dragon Tattoo film, which is a result of the book’s success and not the existing Swedish films.

  26. Estefan Avatar

Actually, Burton made the new Chocolate Factory, because of his dislike of the ’70s version (something I agree with, as I completely despise the Wilder-starring adaptation). John August didn’t even watch “Willy Wonka” before writing the screenplay, instead choosing adapt Roald Dahl’s book (because, let’s be honest, David Seltzer’s script was a complete bastardization of Dahl’s work).

I had problems with “Let the Right One In,” but it was an effective film overall, especially the final act. I don’t think the tone is captured correctly in the remake, at least by the trailer’s standards.

But we mustn’t judge it before it comes out. Could be rather special.

I’ve missed this site. And I still need to see the original before I see the remake.

In other good news, I am anticipating one of you posting about the fantastic news regarding our new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield! Sooooooo ecstatic for him. Hope he has a good year this year as well, potentially leading to a Best Supporting Actor nomination for either of his films. (Never Let Me Go seems a lot more trustworthy than The Social Network, but the role in the latter is juicier.)

Should be interesting to see how this film opens up against “The Social Network.”

Chloe Moretz was insufferable in “(500) Days of Summer” and downright objectionable in “Kick-Ass.” Naturally, I can’t wait for this.
