Something about Milk seems a little bit too safe to me. I think it’ll end up being one of those excellent films that get a best picture nom, get excellent reviews and say something without being even slightly revelatory or challenging. In fact it looks so excellent it almost seems redundant. I wish they’d get rid of Milk and Frost/Nixon from their semi-secure BP positions and fill the category with films like:
Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, The Dark Knight, Gran Torino, The Wrestler, Rachel Getting Married, The Reader, Australia…even Synecdoche, New York.
Maybe I’m just a bit of a cynic…

Continuing on my Milk rant…
Why isn’t Sean Penn being scrutinized for wearing a prosthetic nose a la Nicole Kidman?
Is it me or is he channeling Sam from I am Sam and does this film not follow a similar vein to a certain extent. Even comparing Sam’s friends to Harvey’s friends, there are some similarities.

Penn is male. Males don´t get foulmouthed about their appearances.
I believe Milk is the winner too. It´s getting raves, all around and isn´t anything “geeky” like Benjamin Button or “indy” like Slumdog. Plus it will show how much they do love gays after all since Brokeback Mountain.
