Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know that earlier in the week, a work print of Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was leaked online and downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.
The story hasn’t gone away for many reasons, chief among them the slow news week, I’m sure (which David Poland bemoans here). But even with that having been said, New York magazine’s decision to post images from and commentary on the work print is deplorable to say the least. I understand the blog’s desire to stay “hip” and maintain that characteristic snarkiness, and sure, it’s a funny post. But how is this okay?
Worse, Fox’s own Roger Friedman had the balls to actually review the film. It’s already unbelievable that guy has a job to begin with, but Jesus.

It’s amazing how classy and professional the movie blogs have been about this whole issue in contrast to the major entertainment news outlets.

Here I am on my moral high ground. I won’t download it.
Roger Friedman’s review is so insincere.
He basically thinks that if he over praises the movie, then its OK.
“I found a work in progress print of it, 95 percent completed, on the internet last night. Let’s hope by now it’s gone”
Oh, another insincere comment. Because you can really remove something of the internet and never have it appear again!.
NY Mag post was funny.
Could the FBI/MPAA, in theory, take Roger Friedman to court given that he has openly admitted to downloading it illegally?

Roger Friedman writes for what again? Things like this make me think it was a conscious decision by Fox to change the narrative about this film.

The reason I think the NY Mag piece is acceptable is because it presents the pirated copy in a way that displays its inadequacies.

But still, I wont read any website or any magazine that reviews a beta copy of the movie. that is my decision and the way that must be done. IMHO

If these people illegally watched the movie, why are charges not being brought against them?

Because they aren’t the ones who leaked it, are not seeding it to others and potentially did not even downloaded it themselves. Watching it isn’t a crime.

Fox has condemned it now, but anything short of firing him is absolutely ridiculous.
