‘Julie & Julia’ teaser poster

I’m still hearing supporting from pretty much everyone on Meryl Streep’s awards hopes here, by the way.  One of three Scott Rudin projects that could find itself in the running this year (the others being “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” and the new Nancy Meyers flick — four if “Margaret” ever finds its way to the screen):

Nora Ephron? Okay, I’ll bite. It already has a good shot at a Best Actress nod for Streep (if she can get nominated for Music of the Heart, she’ll get recognized for just about anything).

Why am I dreading this so?

Why does this remind me of one of those old Woody Allen posters like for Crimes and Misdemeanors?

I’m excited because it’s a Nora Ephron written and directed movie. For me, her movies are such great love letters to Manhattan (UES). And you know, with When Harry Met Sallie and You’ve Got Mail, she has documented on film important pop culture(?) moments.

I think with the “foodie” culture, she might have her finger on the pulse of the current culture. V. excited.

I’m waiting for her NY/unemployed movie–the one about the Unemployed Olympics.

“When Harry Met Sally” is great, I’ll give you that. (Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that she didn’t direct it.)

    But “You’ve Got Mail?” Ew.

Nora Ephron is reason #35 that this is a must-miss.

This is a heart-warming film— a movie that will melt your heart.

    Here are my bets:
    – Best Actress: Meryl Streep
    – Best Supp. Actress: Amy Adams

Possible: Best Supporting Actor: Stanley Tucci

Possible: Best Picture for Golden Globes (Comedy)

    Kris regarding Streep´s placement:

I know you have excess to information that I don´t but I´ve been hearing lead. Head over to Nathaniel´s The Film Experience, there are the latest “leadrumors”. Oh well only time will tell.

    Gary of WeHo:

It sounds like you´ve seen the movie!?
If you have, what are your thoughts about it, Streep and Adams?

More regarding the Streep lead-supporting mystery:

Apparently the movie is not just based on Julies (Amy Adams character) book as previously thought but also on Julia Child´s memoir “My Life in France”. On the teaser poster it also says based on two true stories. From what I´ve heard Streep and Adams are both lead (screentime wise) , Streep could even have a bit of more footage.

Based on this I´d say Streep is easily lead (with her reputation and all) UNLESS her Nancy Meyers comedy is a big hit and she is campained lead for that. We all know how campaining in Hollywood goes…

Yawn. More Ephron bashing. I’d kill to be as bitingly funny as that woman. Hell, even when she’s not trying to be funny she’s great (see “Silkwood”). Sure, there’s “Bewitched” and a few other odd spots but everyone has those. And scoff as you will, but “You’ve Got Mail” is one of the loveliest and most beautifully effervescent rom-coms i’ve ever seen.

Well played, Kris. I haven’t been here in a while and I come back to see this. The rabid Meryl Streep fan in me just did a happy dance. Awesome.

I think Streep has hit bottom material- and directing-wise with ‘Mamma Mia!’ (I did see it twice, but I don’t think it’ll age well, even if it was a hoot.), so we’re probably on our way up.

I love how the poster isn’t some Photoshopped hodgepodge (which they’ll probably reserve for the final one, argh.), which seems to be the norm these days. It’s a beautiful poster that is both insightful and interesting. It’s also minimalist, compared to other posters from the same genre, and that works for me.

Also, I might be thinking too hard with this one, but two eggs of different colors representing two women who are both passionate about cooking and who come from different contexts and life experiences? That’s good enough. I don’t know if they thought of that when they made this, but the fact that it came to mind when I saw the poster earns the two thumbs up I’ll give for this one. I’m looking forward to watching this movie.

Also, I think Meryl Streep might be supporting in this movie. About the Nancy Meyers one, she’s playing the female lead there, which was pretty much obvious since they placed her character in a love triangle. I think she’s doing a theme for this year, since in the Nancy Meyers movie, as far as I know, her character owns a bakery. Hmmm.

BTW, this film is a DRAMA, not a comedy.
