Stunning new ‘Broken Embraces’ trailer

Posted by Guy Lodge · 5:35 am · July 3rd, 2009

The Guardian has exclusively debuted the brand new trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s “Broken Embraces,” and it’s a thing of considerable beauty.

Mixed reviews be damned — the oil-painting saturated color of Rodrigo Prieto’s lensing (which weirdly reminds me of Vittorio Storaro’s work on Bertolucci’s “The Spider’s Stratagem”), the cannily cool choice of Cat Power on the soundtrack, not to mention the stylistics of Penelope Cruz’s headlong dive into fetishized femme fatale territory, all have my mouth positively watering. I’ll be seeing the film later this month, and that day can’t come too soon.

The Guardian selfishly won’t let us embed the trailer, so watch it here. Now. We’ll post it here as soon as it becomes available.

As I live in Spain, I saw the movie some months ago. Im worried about the expectancy you all are showing, because I think, you can be dissapointed. I had to see the movie more than once to really appreciate it. But for me, the most importante thing to warn about, is that Penelope Cruz is not in such a leading role all you are thinking, I think she is more like in a very important secondary role. I think that a leading role nomination is a bit impossible, not for her acting, but for her timing on screen. And there are not that big moments of drama as there were in Volver.
It is my opinion, of course

Speaking of trailers, the trailer for Jim Sheridan’s remake of Susanne Bier’s “Brothers” just came out.
