International ‘Hurt Locker’ one-sheet

Posted by Guy Lodge · 4:00 pm · July 8th, 2009

You’re probably aware that the opening 8 minutes of Kathryn Bigelow’s staggering “The Hurt Locker” are available to view online. I’m not linking on point of principle — the increasingly popular tactic of marketing movies via isolated clips rather than trailers doesn’t sit well with me anyway, but in particular, an opening sequence as tense and electrifying as that of “The Hurt Locker” deserves to be experienced unspoiled on the big screen. Seek it out if you must, but I advise against it.

Meanwhile, IMP offers a pair of new international posters for the film: they’re nothing like as strong as earlier designs, but I guess floating heads still sell for some folks. Glad to see they’ve kept that terse tagline, though. Similar second design after the cut.

I agree, these are nowhere near the quality of the earlier one-sheets.

And by the way, is Kris on vacation or are you just on a posting spree, Guy?

Kate from the best show ever LOST is in this movie? Wow.

The second this movie hits a theater near me I’m seeing it. Haven’t watched the first eight minutes either, so… I’m excited.

Wade: Ha! Kris is indeed on vacation — a well-earned one, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Georgie: Don’t get too excited about Lilly’s presence. A minor cameo.

The posters are very bland. I just want to see it already. Long periods of hype make the suburbs bored.

    Hello,
I’m from Brazil, and I don’t know if you knew about that, but “The Hurt Locker” is already avaiable on dvd here…

It’s strange that Lilly would get above the title billing when she isn’t a major star and she has a minor cameo… I’m assuming the same for Ralph Fiennes and Guy Pearce, but they’re actually known actors.

I saw this in theatres yesterday and I’m not sure what to think. It was two hours long, but still somehow just felt way too short.

And why are Lilly and Fiennes on the poster? Seriously? They have like 5 minutes combined screen time.

Not to be a jerk, Guy, but I believe it’s ‘kept’, not ‘keep’.

Ugh, thanks Eunice. That’s what I get for posting at midnight after a few pints.

I sort of understand the rationale, but I hate that they’re spoiling the cameos with the poster. I loved Ralph’s unexpected appearance.

@Guy: It’s alright. It happens to everyone. Also, the studios’ new tactic of leaking out longer clips in place of trailers is annoying. Not only do they spoil the fun of seeing it the first time, but also the pre-judging that happens on the Net can discourage a huge audience from seeing what is actually a decent or even great movie.

Not a big fan of floating heads, especially when they cut through what appears to be a more interesting shot.
