'Moonrise Kingdom' wins big with Central Ohio film critics

Finally someone would like to shake things up a little bit again. The Central Ohio Film Critics Association has chosen Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” as the year’s best film, and not only that, but given it five awards, including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Score and Best Ensemble. Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor for “Lincoln” while Jennifer Lawrence took Best Actress for “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Nominations have been announced by the Denver Film Critics Society. “Argo,” “Lincoln,” “The Master” and “Silver Linings Playbook” led the way with four nominations each, though “The Master” was edged out of the Best Picture category by “Django Unchained.” Winners will be announced on January 8.

“Argo” won top honors with the Phoenix Film Critics Society, which announced nominees two weeks ago. Kathryn Bigelow took the Best Director prize for “Zero Dark Thirty,” however. Daniel Day-Lewis and Jessica Chastain took top acting honors, with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Anne Hathaway filling out the supporting ranks.

'Lincoln' leads Vancouver film critics nominations

The Vancouver Film Critics Circle has announced nominees this year, and Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” led the way with five nominations, for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay. “Cosmopolis,” “Rebelle” and “Stories We Tell” were chalked up in the Best Canadian Film category. Winners will be announced January 7.

The group was in lock-step with the rest of the season throughout: Daniel Day-Lewis, Jessica Chastain, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Anne Hathaway, etc.
