Barbara Kopple’s Oscar-winning 1976 documentary “Harlan County, USA” will receive the Legacy Award at the Cinema Eye Honors ceremony on January 8, months after the group named it among the 25 most influential docs of all time.

Despite critics furiously protesting its exclusion from the Oscar longlist, Steve James’s “The Interrupters” has been largely sidelined on the precursor circuit thus far. So it took the Cinema Eye Honors to right that wrong. Other films honored by them include “Pina,” “Senna” and “Tabloid.”
