Tim Burton on Ray Harryhausen, stop-motion and the personal touch of 'Frankenweenie'
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 1:02 pm · February 4th, 2013
The last time Tim Burton made the awards press rounds, he was a nominee for 2005’s “Corpse Bride.” Interestingly enough, after a few decades in the live action trenches carving out his own identity and aesthetic on the screen, it’s been only in the animation arena that Oscar has taken notice. He’s back again this year as a nominee for his most personal film in some time, “Frankenweenie.”

Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 5:00 am · January 11th, 2013
The American Cinema Editors (ACE) decided there was no rush and chose to hold its announcement for nominations honoring excellence in filmmaking until after the Oscar nominations landed. This despite being ready to announce on Tuesday. I applaud them for that. Just because the Academy says “jump” doesn’t mean you have to.

Academy announces 21 qualifying titles for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 2:07 pm · November 2nd, 2012
In addition to 16 of the Best Animated Feature Film contenders we have already thoroughly charted (and minus “Dino Time,” which didn’t bother — who can blame them? — and “Arjun: The Warrior Prince,” which I had been led to believe by Disney would qualify), the Academy has announced five more qualifying titles for a big ole’ list of 21. So that means we will definitely have a full slate of five nominees in the category, though that was already expected.
