While Best Picture and Director wins may be a done deal for “The Artist,” this year’s Oscars become less predictable the further down the list of categories one goes. Guy Lodge offers his final picks in all 24 races.

Oscar Guide 2011: Best Actor
Posted by gerardkennedy · 8:28 am · February 24th, 2012
On Sunday, five of our leading men will don their tuxes and walk down the red carpet at the top of their profession. Earlier this awards season, it seemed as though this would be a battle between two A-list movie stars. Since then, however, a silent Frenchman has proven himself very adept at charming everyone in sight, and will be difficult to beat.

Breaking Oscar's biopic addiction
Posted by Guy Lodge · 4:15 pm · January 31st, 2012
If the results of Sunday’s SAG Awards are repeated at the Oscars, it’ll be the first time since 1997 that all four acting awards go to actors playing fictitious characters. Are voters slowly getting more resistant to biopics?

We handicap the five film categories in the upcoming Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, which should in turn anticipate the Oscar race.

Globe predictions: Plain sailing for 'The Artist,' but what about the dramas?
Posted by Guy Lodge · 4:15 am · January 15th, 2012
“The Artist” is a lock to win at least two major awards in the musical/comedy categories at the Golden Globes tonight, but the drama race is a little murkier. We offer our thoughts on who will win, and who should.

'The Artist' wins 4 Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture and Director
Posted by Guy Lodge · 1:51 am · January 13th, 2012
There were few surprises in last night’s BFCA Critics’ Choice Awards, as ‘The Artist’ took home the top two prizes — but there was disappointment for nomination co-leader ‘Hugo,’ which won only a single technical prize.

'War Horse,' Scorsese win with North Texas critics
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 3:33 pm · January 9th, 2012
The North Texas Film Critics Association (yep) has gotten together to announce this year’s list of winners. And it was “War Horse” that came out of top, with Martin Scorsese winning directing honors. No were to be found “The Artist.”

'Descendants,' Malick, Clooney and Dunst win with Kansas City critics
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 5:10 pm · January 8th, 2012
The Kansas City Film Critics Circle held its vote this evening and “The Descendants” was named the year’s best. I was somewhat confused that “Hugo” won an award designated for sci-fi/fantasy/horror films, though. How does that perception even happen?

George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Michelle Williams and more turn out for Palm Springs awards gala
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 1:05 am · January 8th, 2012
I’ve never attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. It’s a key stop along the Oscar trail his time of year, very competitive with the Santa Barbara Film Festival. The two duke it out for honorees, one reticent to honor talent that the other has chalked up for an award. Which is obviously silly. But it seemed time to give it a go.

Internet Film Critics award 'Tree of Life,' 'Midnight in Paris,' 'Attack the Block,' 'Drive'
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 10:35 am · January 5th, 2012
The Internet Film Critics Society has jumped into the fray with a list of winners this year. It’s a nifty list because rather than just a “Best Picture” field, things are divided into a couple genres (drama, comedy, action, horror/sci-fi). Though I don’t qualify “Drive” as “action.”

Oklahoma critics march in step, spring for 'The Artist,' Clooney and Williams
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 3:11 pm · December 23rd, 2011
The Oklahoma Film Critics Circle has spoken up and added nothing to the precursor conversation, going with a slate of typical winners. Most annoying, they totally got their “Obviously Worst Film” and “Not-So-Obviously-Worst-Film” awards mixed, but whatever.

Women critics like 'The Help,' 'The Iron Lady' and 'The Whistleblower'
Posted by Roth Cornet · 5:31 pm · December 20th, 2011
The Women Film Critic Circle has come out in strong favor of “The Help,” “The Iron Lady” and “The Whistleblower.” The association has made selections that feel generally in line with the films and performances one would imagine ought to be be highlighted in this year’s landscape. Though I will confess their choices are seasoned with one or two surprises.
