The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has announced “Hugo” director Martin Scorsese as the recipient of this year’s American Riviera Award, meant “to recognize and artist who has had a strong influence on American cinema.”

'The Descendants,' Terrence Malick win with LA film critics

“The Artist” has won Best Picture from the Boston Society of Film Critics. “Hugo” and “Margaret” were close runners-up, and indeed, both looked like favorites throughout the vote until the last prize was handed out.

The Academy has announced a shortlist of 15 contenders for the Best Visual Effects Oscar, and all the usual suspects, from “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” to “The Tree of Life,” are present. Still, it’s bad news for “Anonymous” and “Immortals.”

The Academy to screen Technicolor restoration of first-ever Best Picture winner 'Wings'

William A. Wellman’s “Wings,” which won the first Oscar for Best Picture in 1929, has been fully restored and is ready for its close-up again. The Academy will screen the film with live music accompaniment next month as part of Paramount Pictures’ 100th anniversary.
