It was all smiles at the Warner Bros./In Style party Sunday night as team “Argo” had grabbed yet another one-two Best Picture/Best Director punch after the film’s director Ben Affleck was unceremoniously snubbed from the Oscars’ Best Director line-up late last week.

“Lincoln” has picked up a third Best Picture critics prize, landing the Iowa Film Critics Association award for the year’s best film. Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones were also singled out for the biopic, while Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables”) rounded out the acting honors.

Just as “Argo” had pulled it to a tie, “Zero Dark Thirty” takes another step out ahead of the critics awards haul with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay honors from the Vancouver Film Critics Circle. Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams won awards for their performances in “The Master.”

The Online Film Critics have jumped on the increasingly-strong “Argo” bandwagon and handed the film its Best Picture prize for 2012. Paul Thomas Anderson nabbed Best Director after his film, “The Master,” led the way with nominations. Philip Seymour Hoffman was also recognized for his work in the film. Daniel Day-Lewis and Jessica Chastain won top acting honors and Anne Hathaway picked up yet another prize for her performance in “Les Misérables.”

As members of the Academy hurry through the last screeners they need to see before committing an opinion on the year’s best (for those who bother trying to get as deep into the stack as possible, that is), a number of races hang in the balance as extremely tight categories are sure to leave a few contenders feeling the sting of “also-ran” on Thursday, January 10.

After sitting idly by and watching films like “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Argo” reap most of the critics’ Best Picture awards, Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” finally has one of its own, from the Dallas-Ft. Worth Film Critics Association. The film won Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in addition to Best Picture, but fell to Kathryn Bigelow in the Best Director category.

Indiana Film Journalists Association goes its own way, crowns 'Safety Not Guaranteed'

Well if you were looking for someone, anyone, to just go the least bit against the grain, the Iindiana Film Journalists Association is here to save the day. After announcing nominees last week, the group has handed Best Picture honors to Colin Trevorrow’s “Safety Not Guaranteed,” making it just one more film to win such honors in a year that is spreading the love quite a bit.

The St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association has decided on winners and stuck up for Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” which won Best Picture and Best Director. Another swift turnaround from nominations, as the Chicaco Film Critics Association has joined the chorus of “Zero Dark Thirty” supporters. The film won five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. “The Master,” meanwhile, won four, for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Score.
