Berg, two of the film’s stars, Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch, and real life “lone survivor” Marcus Luttrell reflect on the event, the film, the cost of war and the responsibility of immortalizing it on film.

Back in June it was announced that Universal would be slating Peter Berg’s Afghanistan drama “Lone Survivor” for an Oscar qualifying run. With only Ron Howard’s “Rush” to work with otherwise (a film I hear is a knock-out), the studio needed the extra firepower. Today a trailer for the film arrived.

Peter Berg’s “Lone Survivor” tells the story of four Navy SEALS ambushed in an ill-fated covert mission to thwart a high0level Taliban operative. It’s apparently solid enough for the studio to position it in the thick of the awards hunt with a 12/27 qualifying release platformed out to other markets in January of 2014. After the disaster that was “Battleship,” Berg could sure use a bounce back.
