As campaigns heat up this season, the “Moneyball” way seems to translate. Modest hopefuls need to stand out to be seen, and being seen is perhaps more than half the battle this time of year.

As happens every year, a list of potential Oscar nominees is ineligible for WGA consideration due to a number of issues (signatory concerns, paperwork avoidance, etc.). This year, though, the list seems particularly long.

The Weinstein Company has a healthy slate of films this season, and two of them already set for release this month. Well, chalk up a third, as summer indie “Sarah’s Key” will be re-released on 300 screens to capitalize on a bit of a lull in the season.
