'Argo' stuns for second-straight day this weekend at the SAG Awards

“Argo” is the story of the weekend, clearly. After coming out victorious at the PGA Awards it picked up the ensemble prize that everyone had either chalked up to “Lincoln” or “Silver Linings Playbook,” with some outliers thinking “Les Misérables” had a shot at it. Surprise!

This year’s Oscar nominees for Best Sound Editing were “Argo,” “Django Unchained,” “Life of Pi,” “Skyfall” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” Though intriguingly, even with inflated categories including eight nominees, Kathryn Bigelow’s bin Laden manhunt effort failed to receive a notice in the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ (MPSE) Golden Reel Awards nominations, revealed today.

It was all smiles at the Warner Bros./In Style party Sunday night as team “Argo” had grabbed yet another one-two Best Picture/Best Director punch after the film’s director Ben Affleck was unceremoniously snubbed from the Oscars’ Best Director line-up late last week.

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) decided there was no rush and chose to hold its announcement for nominations honoring excellence in filmmaking until after the Oscar nominations landed. This despite being ready to announce on Tuesday. I applaud them for that. Just because the Academy says “jump” doesn’t mean you have to.

Back and forth between “Argo” and “Zero Dark Thirty” as the former has claimed another Best Picture prize, this time from the Denver Film Critics Society. Ben Affleck also took Best Director, while the acting categories followed the template: Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Anne Hathaway.

Online Film Critics Society goes with 'Argo,' PTA

The Online Film Critics have jumped on the increasingly-strong “Argo” bandwagon and handed the film its Best Picture prize for 2012. Paul Thomas Anderson nabbed Best Director after his film, “The Master,” led the way with nominations. Philip Seymour Hoffman was also recognized for his work in the film. Daniel Day-Lewis and Jessica Chastain won top acting honors and Anne Hathaway picked up yet another prize for her performance in “Les Misérables.”
