There was a time, I think, maybe, when the MTV Movie Awards were kinda neat. But when you’re talking about an organization that doesn’t want it even whispered that it was celebrating its 30th anniversary (lest the kiddies think it’s old school), well, you get “Best Shirtless Performance.”

Mychael Danna was awarded Film Score of the Year by the International Film Music Critics Association for his work on Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi.” Danny Elfman was recognized as Film Composer of the Year while “Lincoln,” “Ted,” “Skyfall,” “John Carter” and “Rise of the Guardians” won throughout the genre categories. The American Cinema Editors (ACE) decided there was no rush and chose to hold its announcement for nominations honoring excellence in filmmaking until after the Oscar nominations landed. This despite being ready to announce on Tuesday. I applaud them for that. Just because the Academy says “jump” doesn’t mean you have to.
