So on one hand, yeah, the headline here is a joke. The Screen Actors Guild’s nominating committee, and indeed, any self-respecting awards-giving body is highly unlikely to pass kudos approval on a film like “The Avengers.” But in the case of a category meant to honor well-oiled machines like this one, perhaps they should.

Now that the Oscar dust has settled and the early-year dumping ground has come to a close, studios are beginning to float materials for their (hopeful) moneymakers out there. Two trailers have dropped this week, for “The Avengers” (opening May 4) and Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” (which doesn’t hit until October).

Stan “The Man” Lee’s creations, from “X-Men” to “Iron Man” and everything in between, have sparked the imagination of visual effects artist in the film industry for years. Perhaps it’s fitting, then, that he be awarded the Visual Effects Society’s lifetime achievement honor.
