“Mud” was the only 2013 film honored at the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards, which otherwise flashed back to the 2012 Oscar race — as “Argo” once more bested its Best Picture rivals. “Homeland” and “Girls” were among the TV winners.

'Silver Linings Playbook' dominates 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 2:30 pm · February 23rd, 2013
In a normal year I would have been working on an interesting blood-Jameson content on the beach of Santa Monica today. Film Independent’s Spirit Awards are, after all, the great stretch of the legs at the tail end of the season with the big Sunday showdown on the horizon. It’s a good party, even if it still seems to be chasing what “independent filmmaking” is in this day and age. (I don’t know that they’ve caught it.)

The Nevada Film Critics Society has added one more notch to “Argo”‘s tally of Best Picture wins. The group tied Ben Affleck with “Zero Dark Thirty” helmer Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director and went in a relatively unique direction with its Best Actor call, opting for John Hawkes in “The Sessions.”

Sacha Gervasi refutes 'Hitchcock' criticism at Fox Searchlight holiday soirée
Posted by Kristopher Tapley · 7:10 pm · November 27th, 2012
Fox Searchlight Pictures had its annual east coast holiday party this evening at Andaz 5th Avenue in a nice second-floor spread with principals from the studio’s films — “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Hitchcock” and “The Sessions” — on hand. Spirits were particularly high after “Beasts” and “Sessions” combined for six Independent Spirit Award nominations (and one each for “Ruby Sparks” and “Sound of my Voice”).
