Sam Rockwell's 'Don Verdean' already has a home before its Sundance premiere

Jared Hess’ “Don Verdean” becomes the second movie to get acquired before the beginning of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival after Lionsgate picks up the Sam Rockwell and Jemaine Clement comedy.

'Her' named best film of 2013 by National Board of Review

Make it a second film in as many days that I had pretty much figured out of the Academy’s likely grasp that has been given a big boost on the precursor circuit. After the New York Film Critics Circle named David O. Russell’s “American Hustle” the year’s best film yesterday, the New York-based National Board of Review has chimed in today by naming Spiike Jonze’s “Her” the top film of 2013. The group also gave Jonze the Best Director prize.

Paramount plays up 'Nebraska's' old-fashioned charms with 'Paper Moon' double bill

Every once in a while a studio capitalizes on parallels between one of its awards hopefuls and a classic of the medium that also did pretty well on the circuit by booking a double bill. Fox Searchlight did it with “The Wrestler” and “On the Waterfront,” for instance. This year, Paramount is going that route with Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and Peter Bogdanovich’s “Paper Moon.”
